Field trip to Akshaypatra -- Sr.kG (2019)

Children of Sr. KG Marigold and Jasmine visited Akshaypatra, located at Bhadaj, on Friday 12/07/2019 during school hours.

The main purpose of the visit was to show the children the big kitchen, with equipment’s and machines, where food is cooked for more than hundreds of children. It is a fully mechanized process of cooking, untouched by humans, except chopping of vegetables. They saw machines that could make 60,000 rotis in one single go. Centralised kitchens are large kitchen units that have the capacity to typically cook up to 100,000 meals. These kitchens serve a set of schools located around the unit. They are automated and thus ensure hygiene during the cooking processes. On the other hand, in locations where factors like difficult geographical terrain and improper road connectivity do not support the construction of large infrastructure, the decentralised kitchen format is the ideal solution. These kitchens are run by the women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the guidance and supervision of Akshaya Patra’s kitchen process and operations module.

They also learnt values through games and stories shown through audio visuals. Children also saw a story that taught them, not to hurt anyone.

Children were given cookies to eat, that were made in their kitchen

It was an enriching experience for all.
