Session on Income Tax for Students of Classes 9 to 12 - 2017

The Better Citizen initiative of JGIS  in collaboration with  The Economics and Commerce Department of JGIS organised a session on Income Tax by Mr. Kalpesh Panara, Asst. Manager- Finance of ASIA Charitable Trust on 21st July 2017, Friday from 8:00 am to 9:30 am for students of classes 9 to 12.

The students as well as the teachers learnt about a lot of details and processes  related to tax in the real world. The topics covered were ranging from the basic concept of tax to the  Indian Tax System, tax slabs, PAN Card relevance, TDS and the recent tax overhaul in the form of GST etc. They also learnt about tax exemptions and tax relief under various heads, surcharge on tax, etc. The expert was also  impressed with the quality of questions asked by the students and their genuine interest to know more beyond what is prescribed in their syllabus. The teachers too took active participation in the session and helped to make it an enriching session. The discussion was also on the lines of ‘why should one pay tax ?’, ‘why do some pay more than the others and some do not pay at all?’. The session also made the students think about the moral and ethical considerations related to the payment of tax and how it was important for them to become responsible and better citizens of the country.
